Tomatillo Salsa Verde

This tomatillo salsa has a fabulous fresh flavor. Use it as a dip or green sauce for topping Mexican tacos, nachos, enchiladas, or any dish that needs a little extra zip!

- 1 pound tomatillos husked
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- 1 serrano chile pepper minced
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt or to taste
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 cups water
Gather all ingredients.
Place tomatillos, onion, chile pepper, and garlic into a large saucepan; season with cilantro, oregano, salt, and cumin. Pour in water and bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until the tomatillos are soft, 10 to 15 minutes.
Transfer tomatillo mixture into a blender in batches; puree until smooth.
Serve with chips.
Recipe Tip
If you prefer a thicker salsa, use a slotted spoon to transfer the tomatillo mixture into a blender, then add cooking water as needed to reach the desired consistency.
