Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup dried cranberries Optional
  • ½ cup raisins Optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan, knocking out excess flour.
  • Mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar together in a large bowl. Mix in molasses and buttermilk until just combined. Fold in cranberries and raisins if using. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the loaf comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes, and then remove from pan. Cool completely before slicing.
